The route 1168, 2035, 2033, 3037

Total distance 87 km
Image
I didnt feel like too much riding today as I am still knackered from yesterdays ride so a local scout around today, out on the 1168 and the Huai Haet reservoir was the first stop, it is reached from this track

Image
I am standing on the overflow so this ones not full

Next stop was the Nam Kian reservoir along the 2035
Image
Another one thats a good bit down from capacity
Image

Image
From the reservoir the 2035 turns into a twisty road
Image

Image
And the scenery starts

In the village at the end of the road

Image
I ride to the north end of the village and venture past where the paved surface finishes but it looked like nothing interesting this way so it was an about turn and back through the village to explore heading south
Image
I ride south past the waypoint I left last time at the end of the paved road and now its a dusty dirt track

Image
At a fork I go left and it goes down into this village

This felt quite safe

Not much further and its a water crossing

Then another bridge

I get to a section that for some reason is that horrible wet red clay and its rather slippery, then its back to dry and dusty
Image
I pass this rather large Richard III (British rhyming slang for turd) in the middle of the road

Then its another water crossing
Image
I ride through and the tracks go haywire on my GPS, I try to follow a route but come to a fallen tree completely blocking my progress so I try anothrer one and ride through the river again but on the other side its looks like narrow single track and I decide to do an about turn and try back a little bit where my GPS shows another track
Image
I ride back to just past the Richard III then turn left but its a water crossing that looks tricky, its steep with wet mud going up the other side so I give it a miss and carry on riding back to try another turning further on
Image
This turning starts off alright
Image

Image
Then turns to narrow single track
Image
It steep and rough in places and I decide to turn around and try the entrance of this track from the 3037

The start of the track from the 3037 and a lot easier
Image
This is more like it

The Nam Kaen reservoir

It turns to single track in places but its easy going

Its always good to see someone else come along out here
Image
I now ride through some seriously narrow single track going through bamboo and I dont stop for pictures just keep going until I have nearly linked my track up beside these buffaloes
Image

Image
Unfortunately to link my track up I need to cross the water and there are no crossing places to either get in or back out again
Image
Definitely no crossing here and its annoying as its about 50 metres short of the link
Image
I try another direction to ride to the water crossing near the Richard III, here it is and theres a Richard III where I need to go into the water.
The water is reasonably deep at the entry point and while I dont think it would be a problem crossing in this direction turning around and getting back over would be, I refused to do it this morning and I refuse again.
Hopefully I will get the chance to ride this again in march when its dried up, either that or if there were two of us I would give it a go

Another link thats got a few metres missing

Riding back through the bamboo forest

At a fork I take a right to ride towards another single track I turned back on earlier today to explore it from the other end

The Nam Kaen in the distance

Although its single track its not too hard going

Image
I start going up a steep loose surface and the track is now getting overgrown, I park up here at the top and walk to investigate
The GPS shows I am 330 metres from where I turned back this morning but thats in a straight line and with the curves its at least 500 metres left to go
This image has been resized. The original image is 480 x 640.
Going down the other side its steep and loose, plus with the growth I am not sure I would get back up
Image
In the distance
Image
The burnt bit is where I turned back this morning
This image has been resized. The original image is 480 x 640.
The photo doesnt show the true steepness of the track and its a refusal to even try, again perhaps in march everything will be burnt then theres more scope to see things clearly and it might be possible
Image
Time to walk back up there and find my bike
Image
Time to get back to the road
Image
This is a bit dodgy, to my right its an upwards slope and to my left a steep downwards slope, not a good place to fall off

Image
I ride back to the 3037, turn left then stop at the reservoir, here is the overflow
Image

Image
Now its time to go home and eat
