The 1339 is now a much wider road all the way to Pak Nai apart from a very short section and has a very good surface

  1. There is about a 16 km section along the 1243 that was still unpaved the last time I rode there but otherwise it was all paved.
You just roll up and the ferry takes you across, sometimes by yourself and sometimes its loaded with other vehicles

This site might not be around much longer so make a note of http://www.rideasia.net I also post there as Captain_Slash

  2. colin, you are such a wealth information as well as your site. if i am leaving from ban muang phrae to nan using the 1268 – 1239- 1339 – ferry- ban pak nai – then onto nan. are you able to tell me if these roads are paved? also what do you know about the ferry service? do you know of a web site that may provide info on if the roads are paved? last year i took a few routes not really knowing the conditions. it was quite ok allowing you to see places that most people never see. i do prefer paved on a PCX. thanks mate.
