The Route 108, 3005
Total Distance 182 km
Heading south on the 3005 to explore further
A few shots from Kong Prae Tai, fuel is sold here from a hand pump at N18.04.059 E098.08.898
Now I am to where I left off yesterday and the first thing I notice is how much more of the road is concrete now compared to when I last rode here two or three years ago
This was dirt last time and I remember my first ever time along here on my 650 BMW, I rode over the brow of the hill on concrete and just over the apex it suddenly turned to dust.
That was a near accident and a lesson was learnt to always expect the unexpected out here
I take a right and ride down to a village and just through it the road turns to dirt at N18.02.696 E098.07.567
This lady is busy collecting wood
The KLX is propped up on its own stand today and hopefully that piece of bamboo is now redundant
Although this dirt track goes further I am pretty sure its just a local access road and not a through track, here we both head back towards the village
The ESRI shows a trach to my right linking up with another road but I fail to find it so ride back out the way I came in
A right onto the 3005 then another right very soon after takes me to another village
I ride through it then try to find the track that takes me back to the previous village.
The road turns to dirt at N18.02.123 E098.07.341 and its a double track for a short way then turns to this narrow rutted single track
If it does go back to the other village thats the way it goes, here I turn around
Back to the 3005 and a right then a bit further on is a T junction where I take another right
This road goes to Ban Pha Yoe and has always been a concrete road since I first rode out this way
Before Ban Pha Yoe I take a right onto a dirt track at N18.00.858 E098.08.549
I ride past a village which is just off the track and finally reach a small village
Here the road finishes and only this narrow track goes on out of the village so its turnaround time again
On the way back I take a left to ride around the village just off the main track
Get your batteries charged here
Next stop was in Ban Pha Yoe where I stop for a snack and this lady sells fuel from a hand pump at N18.00.904 E098.09.171
On all my previous rides the concrete goes just past the village then finishes, today it went a lot further
Theres been a landslip here but at the moment the concrete road is still in one piece, its a sheer drop if it does go though
The road turns to dirt at N17.59.733 E098.08.747
After a while the road returns to concrete at N17.59.230 E098.08.530 and just past this point I take a right to ride to a small village
Now back on the road and it returns to dirt at N17.59.160 E098.08.163 and apart from a couple of small sections stays dirt now for the rest of the way.
In places its easy going and in others its badly rutted
I am at 1170 metres now and looking down on most things, this would be an awesome view at the right time of the year
I pass a turning to my left and a bit further on can see this village also to my left
Just a bit further on and theres a turning to the left which I start to explore then realise its not going to that village so turn around
Lots of bulldust now
I passed some concrete being mixed just now and this is obviously where its going to
That road to my left that I started to explore went to this village that only now comes into view, something for tomorrows trip
I dont need too much of that spoiling the view
I see some houses to my left and a bit further on take a left but this is whats at the bottom
Riding on another 100 metres and looking back I realise this was what I could see from the top, nothing more to see down here so its time to ride back
Back at the top I do a left and the sign says Ban Huai Wok 2 km, these people are from that village
Certainly some lovely scenery
This is on the side of a truck in the village
At this house fuel is sold in bottles at N17.59.491 E098.05.243
Now time to ride back, there is another turning to my right but time is getting on and I have a long way to go so leave it out but I regret not trying it later on.
That fire is on the track home
Its too hot to ride through there so I wait a bit
After the flames subsided I foolishly tried riding through but couldnt see where I was going and more importantly couldnt breathe.
I got off the bike and ran back out as fast as I could, after waiting for a while and hoping not to hear an explosion from the bike exploding I managed to get back to it and ride through.
Now if only I had tried out that other track the fire would have subsided before I got here.
To make matters worse the idiot doing the burning appeared and found it highly amusing then proceded to set more on fire
Now I am safely past it
The bike was covered in ash and a hole was burnt in the Airhawk seat cushion cover but thankfully the Airhawk itself was undamaged.
Its only got to last another four weeks then I will get a new one from the US for next holiday
Some more concrete being laid on the way back, hurry up you lot there a few more km to do yet
Now back on the 3005 and three road shots to finish with
The 3005 was a days trip on the Phantom but with the KLX I am exploring all the dirt off shoots and might get another two more days out of it yet
Chicken, fries and onions at Northwest tonight for 200 Baht
