The Route 108, 1099
Total Distance 176 km
I headed east along the 108 for about 40 km then took a right at N18.08.106 E098.11.191 onto a dirt track
I have often wondered where this went and today I found out
A pleasant peaceful ride through here
The first of four easy water crossings today and just through here the surface turns to concrete at N18.06.565 E098.12.630
In Mae Waen some building taking place
No markings on this bike to identify it
At N18.06.210 E098.12.699 the surface turns to dirt until N18.05.886 E098.12.678 then its a concrete road to Kong Koi and beyond
Fuel was available from hand pumps at N18.05.664 E098.12.316 and at N18.05.298 E098.11.960
I ride on in a SW direction then take a left onto a concrete road that turns to dirt at N18.04.648 E098.11.434
Its looking bleak and burnt but its a very enjoyable ride today and I am spending most of the day exploring new tracks for me
Now if only all water crossings were this easy
I go through another small water crossing and just on the other side some agriculture, I see an awful lot of tomatoes today
The fourth and final water crossing and I wonder how navigatable this would be in the wet season, no bridges out here today
I reach a small village
No snacks available here
Looking back at the village
Hills in most directions now
This is a lot steeper than it looks in the photo and its 1st and 2nd gear now for a fair way
I take a right here as it will be a short cut as long as it links up with the track I need
At the bottom of the hill it stops
Its back up the hill and on up the proper track which is steep and very rutted
I am not the only one thinking that was hard going, the KLX agrees with me as the fan comes on during the ascent, not something that ever happens much
Now descending over the other side and much easier going now
Now at a crossroads, theres a few side shoots going off the main track
I reach the main track and decide to turn left to ride to a nearby village to get a snack.
Although they sold fuel from a hand pump at N18.02.614 E098.16.873 there appeared to be no food or drinks available here.
I turn round and ride back staying on the main track, I ride through another village seeing no shops either
A fire in the distance
Its a bumpy but not difficult dirt track for most of the way with the odd short stretch of concrete in places.
I stop in a village, possibly Mae La Luang and here fuel is sold from a hand pump at N18.02.096 E098.18.651.
Snacks and drinks are sold here too
I am seeing more fires now but none of them are too close to the road.
Fuel is sold from another handpump at N18.05.220 E098.20.213
At N18.06.164 E098.20.418 the road turns to this lovely asphalt surface
I have no number for this lovely road
Just before reaching the 1099 and loads more tomatoes are growing here
I reach the 1099 turning left onto it to ride back to Mae Sariang.
Along the 1099 fuel was sold from hand pumps at N18.06.268 E098.22.479 and at N18.08.193 E098.22.369
The English breakfast for 140 Baht at Sawaddee, this doesnt look like a big breakfast but both times I have eaten it here I have been completely full up
